6. Rove relishes the idea of spotlighting Edwards now, to take heat off Republicans...

Edwards is once again thinking only of himself, and trying to restore his career. Instead, he'll remind people of how untrustworthy he is -- and there's no doubt Rove wants that public sentiment to spill over to Democrats in general.

Democrats have nothing to gain from this debate. They already loathe Rove, and the ideas he promotes.

Edwards will attempt to demonize Rove (impossible, since anybody who doesn't already see him as a demon is unlikely to be swayed by a liar). In trying to demonize Rove, Edwards will overplay his hand and screw up.

The performance Edwards gives doesn't matter anyway. Rove wins just by showing up and getting Edwards back into conversation at the office water cooler.

Edwards doesn't care. This is a hail Mary pass for his career. He and Palin have a common obsession: self-absorption.
