Figuring out where to go from here, though, is the direction in which many Democrats are focusing their efforts next. Next Sunday night, Congressman Barney Frank will speak to members of the Newton Dialogues on Peace and War about the next steps.

Frank told the TAB last week that Democrats have to continue to hold Bush's feet to the fire and deal with him much like the Republicans dealt with former President Bill Clinton - be outspoken and question decisions.

"Our job will be to point out and say, 'Look, this is what you get,'" he said.

Now that Republicans have a firmer control of both Congress and the presidency, Frank said, the nation will be truly tested on whether they approve of Bush's policies.

"I think a large part of the public likes the conservatives' theme music," he said. "Now they will be tested on whether they like the lyrics."
