I've heard no mention of unix based systems being implemented in any of the voting systems. I can't imagine they would even want the abitlity to "port" to unix because a central tabulator system that is unix based would be a lot harder to hack without a trail than the windows systems.
They don't seem to be about making systems that are hard to hack. The GEMS system is not written in VB.

VB would be one of the last languages anyone would pick with the idea of porting to unix later. Perl would be a more obvious choice.

I'm not sure what to think of that quote.
