* was in the right place at the right time to fill the open position for Eminent Asshole in Chief. Or, the wrong place at the wrong time, for the evil sequence of events to manifest into its ugly fruition. There may have been a cosmic hole in the fabric of the universe, or maybe, more like a growing cancer that gave * his entrance into despotism. I'm being poetic here...

But in the end, * himself is just an empty puppet.
There is a hand of malevolence controlling the puppet, though, which should not be taken too lightly.
