A funny thing happened on the way to get a new VCR

After a power outage last week, my VCR was dead. No lights, no response. I researched places to get a replacement and found Best Buys had VCR/DVD combos. Went to purchase one last night, the scanner wouldn't take my main credit card, so I used the backup, which scanned with no problem.

Called the company this morning to clear the matter. The account was flagged with some odd purchases over the weekend so I had to talk to the card fraud section. They verified the valid purchase I made and saw 2 others. Those were not familiar, so the clerk said that my credit card had been compromised and that I'd be issued a new card and the old account would be investigated. The fraudulant purchases only came to about $36.

All very routine and problem solved...right?

Well, I returned home and the old VCR was functioning again. Lights, response to the remote, played VCR tapes as usual. I had to reset the clock and date, but it was working.

Hmmm...
