3. Oh, please. The very vocal few on both sides
refuse to be placated. I'm not saying that we should roll over and pretend profiling doesn't exist, but President Obama to me chose his words very carefully and I don't see an apology in them. As far as blinking, perhaps in so far as he is the president and could single-handily bring the argument down a thousand to a civil level of discussion. Who else could do it since Gates nor Crowley is backing down? How quickly people forget the police department blinked first and dropped all charges. What is so wrong with bringing both sides together??? As a matter of fact, it was Crowley suggesting they come together for beer at the White House.

First of all, in my take of it, the president said, Crowley is a good man but no matter how much of an expert he is in racial sensitivity, he could not handle such a charged situation. No apology there.

Second of all, Obama defended his decision to step in it, "Whether I were black or white, I think that me commenting on this -- and hopefully contributing to constructive, as opposed to negative, understandings about the issue -- is part of my portfolio."

I think either side can take this however they feel. Part of my portfolio to me means, he will speak up if something of this magnitude occurs again, albeit with more tempered words.
