Report: Army possibly missing some nerve gas
The Associated Press
Posted : Tuesday Feb 10, 2009 14:58:36 EST

SALT LAKE CITY — A federal government report says there is a remote possibility that the Army may be missing some nerve gas.

An Army Audit Agency report says there are discrepancies in records between how much chemical weapons agent was initially stored and how much was later destroyed at Utah’s Deseret Chemical Depot and six other bases in the U.S.

But the report says officials believe all the nerve agent in question was destroyed, according to a Deseret News story.

Auditors reviewed Army Chemical Materials Agency records of arms destruction at the seven bases. An international treaty requires that the arms are destroyed by April 2012. The August report lists several reasons inaccurate discrepancies may have been recorded.
