11. He Lost The Katie Couric Sweepstakes
He was the sure "heir apparent" to Dan Rather...that was until Rather's reputation took a big hit with the 60 Minutes mess. That seemed to affect Roberts as well as CBS moved to bring in the more "moderate" Bob Schieffer to squell all the right wing hate mongers who were getting into Viacom's head. Roberts was futher out when the network decided it needed more "glitz" on the News and that Les Moonves got to call the shots...Roberts days at CBS were numbered.

In the meantime, CNN let go Aaron Brown and Roberts looked to fit the niche Brown was filling...of New York/East Coast intellectual...or more authoritative....but then Anderson Cooper came along and that pretty much has pushed Roberts into a supporting role at CNN almost like he had at CBS. The dude has been on the bad side of some bad luck in his career...but then with the goofy reporting he's been doing from the Middle East the past couple days, I can see why.
