They claim they've been aware of and investigating since DECEMBER. They could have exposed and/or squashed the plot at any point during those 8 months.

However, they chose to wait until just a few weeks before the September 11th anniversary and after the primary showed anti-war sentiment now dominant, very clearly in an attempt to make it "play well" for them (per WH aide comment, posted earlier) and to use it for political gain.

This politics of fear has got to be disemboweled now.
