Utter despair and sadness at what should be so obviously ours.

There are so many good people on DU. So many funny people. So many outrageous and creative people. So many smart people. So many just damn real people that give so much out of themselves for a message board. And you guys know this is some real end..and now we wait for..for the done deal and what? Pray that Alito and the rest aren't that bad? Pray that Bolton and Rice and the still there fucking it up Rumsfeld aren't going to lead us into another war? Pray that someone (who? where?) will hold the president accountable? The law was broken. The constiution not followed.

An overwhelming majority of the congress and the people are against torture. The president decided to add a "signing statement" that says he doesn't have to follow what he congress says if he thinks he needs to torture. Mr. Alito approves of the unitary executive. The premise of seperate powers has been elimanated before our eyes.

These are facts. But the thing I've learned is that we aren't dealing anymore in the world of objective truth. There is Republican truth and the truth. And without legal re-dress, without elections that can be verified, without representation that has a real voice we are utterly powerless.

The only power is information. We have lost that. No matter how much comes up that this administration has done that is basically not forgivable-the tresspases against truth and against this country-the message is given that is the opposite of what the truth is. The truth is hidden, spun, treated with contempt-or in as in the nature of many unanswered questions surrounding 9/11-the day that started the endless nightmare-wholly ignored. It's turned into some Orwellian nightmare-the cliche is true. Just saw Bush saying how good it is that Osama is still around to remind Americans that is important he spy on them and break laws so Osama won't kill them. It's bizzaro world. It's crazy time. Howard Dean and Michael Moore are as bad as Bin Laden.

Anyway, the way out of this isn't through our democratic leaders. Something new will have to be born. Our we can sit around and pray they don't take away all our liberties or kill us. That's what I feel right now. Praying is all we have.
