The archive contains more than 4,000 videos from Chicago and around the world. Most have never been seen on TV. 350 hours of programs and footage from the archive are now streaming at mediaburn.org, and more are being added every day. They include early works by pioneers of non-fiction video and a full-spectrum of unfiltered journalism as documentary art. They are alternative, outside-the-mainstream visual evidence of a diverse cross-section of politics, culture, sports and everyday life from the beginning of portable video recording in the early 1970s to the present.

mediaburn.org allows viewers to watch entire programs of 30 - 60 minutes or more, not just short or random clips as shown on many internet video sites. Viewers can choose where to start and stop playback and create their own compilation DVD's for purchase online.

The archive is the brainchild of award-winning producer Tom Weinberg, who created the innovative independent video series "The 90's" (PBS) and "Image Union" (WTTW), and dozens of breakthrough documentaries and live programs for public and commercial TV.
