teamwork is/was stressed to the nth degree where creativity and individualism was looked down upon and discouraged. In a way, this parallels the idea of fascism. Every process is analyzed for improvements in efficiency where small improvements are made gradually toward a larger goal, stressing lean production.

"The Machine that Changed the World" discusses how lean production revolutionized the Japanese auto industry. "The Goal" is a good book about the process of ongoing improvement.

I think people can be self-disciplined without resorting to a change in political structure.
