The Decima Research survey found that 26 per cent of respondents said the environment will have the greatest impact on their ballot decision. This suggests trouble for the Conservatives, whose Clean Air Act has been harshly criticized for doing nothing to curb greenhouse gases.
The poll also found that 23 per cent of respondents picked the economy as their key issue, another 18 per cent chose taxes and 13 per cent named the war in Afghanistan.
Pollster Bruce Anderson says the findings suggest that an election fought on the economy and taxes would play to Tory strengths, and one fought on the environment would help the Liberals
