and mean?

We protest the war every Sunday and if the Chiefs play at home at noon, we get a lot of fans driving by on their way home from the game. On the Sundays the Chiefs lose, like today, we can count on people driving by (almost always in a big SUV) all dressed in red, usually drunk, rolling down their windows and yelling hateful things at us. Another interesting thing is the majority of these cars are not local; they have out of state plates.

Several weeks ago on a losing Sunday, I had a full can of beer thrown at me. Today we had an SUV drive by so slowly it was holding up traffic. They had their windows down and yelled several cuss words. One guy yelled that he wanted to beat the shit out of us. Then the car sped up and the driver ran a red light, nearly causing a collision.

My dad was a high school coach. I grew up watching games. I can remember crying on the way home from many games he lost but I don't remember anyone being so upset that they were hateful or threatened anyone. Granted, it was high school and these fans are coming from a pro game, but it sure does seem odd that they are so incredibly mean.

Maybe it's the beer. But I sure will be glad when football season is over. Sheesh.
