7. There may be some twisted reasoning behind the timing
a) Hussein was viewed as a secular leader, so therefore, this may cause mass celebration among religious Moslems and reduce the level of violence among Shi'ites and Kurds, thus easing their opposition to long term U.S. interests.
b) This will escalate the anger among the minority Sunnis, increase their violence and Bush will be justified sending more troops just like they were planning on doing in the first place. But now they will only be fighting 1/3 of the Iraqis instead of all of them.

Neither reason I presented is anything other than simpleminded wishful thinking which I suspect is the only kind of strategy this White House is capable of concocting. This is the crew that tried to sell us "shock and awe", "hearts and minds", and "flowers in the street".

If you want to guess how our foreign policy is currently concocted, imagine the simplest and most idiotic premise you can think of, then execute. I may not be that far off the mark.
