She was the cheer-leading right-wing war-supporter who spent some time with the B-57 Canberra crews in Danang (the Doom Pussies) in the early years of the Viet Nam war. She wrote an atrocious book that she called The Doom Pussy (D.O.O.M. for the Danang Officers Open Mess, or "O" club, and Pussy for the "jaws of the mouth of the cat of death," which many of us peaked into along the Ho Chi Mihn trail at night over Laos). Shepard unabashedly supported every aspect of the Viet Nam war.
