32. Here's the issue I have with Kinky.
Laura Miller.

Ever hear of her? She is currently the mayor of Dallas. Her background is not in politics; she was a journalist for the local independent newspaper and she spent a lot of time outside the establishment taking potshots at the mayor and the council. She finally ran for councilmember and then mayor, riding her "I'm an outsider, I'm a reformer, I'm a fiery independent!" all the way.

Kinda like Kinky.

The only problem? She can't get anything done. She has NO experience in building coalitions and in bringing people together. Her entire life she's been the "outsider reformer." Now, the mayor doesn't have a lot of power; she has to work with the city council. Similarly, the governor doesn't have a lot of power, he's got to work with the Lege. Neither one can rule by fiat -- they've got to be able to work deals, to forge consensus, to build power bases, and to horse trade.

Laura Miller can't do it and I doubt Kinky will be able to either. And I'm not up for four more years of dithering around in Austin.
