Letterman/Leno the late night network talk shows are the embodiment mainstream television and mainstream culture. He shapes mainstream opinion alot more than O'Leilly. What this tells people is that this O'Leilly guy is a clown who is outside the mainstream. If others who are influential in the MSM follow Letterman they can really marginalize this guy and Fox News.

Or it could just be more visibility and publicity for O'Leilly if it is not sustained. My advice to Letterman: Don't invite him back on and act like you respect his opinion or that he actually speaks for anyone. Never have him on again. Ever. Don't legitimize this asshole even if the network execs tell you that your sparring with him makes good TV.
