*FEATURED ACTION: Tell Senator Feinstein --
Investigate Wiretapping Scandal Before Alito Hearings

** FEATURED ACTION **

Investigate Wiretapping Scandal Before Alito Hearings

President Bush recently admitted that -- in what seems to be a clear
violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) -- he
authorized electronic eavesdropping on Americans without ever seeking
the warrants legally required under FISA. Americans are justifiably
outraged -- and calls for hearings to investigate this matter are
coming from both sides of the aisle.

Tell Senator Feinstein to postpone the Alito
hearings so the Judiciary Committee can get to the bottom of the
wiretapping scandal immediately:

However, despite clear evidence of what may well be an impeachable
offense, the first item on the Senate Judiciary Committee's agenda in
the new legislative year remains confirmation hearings for Samuel
Alito to possibly join the Supreme Court. A senator from your state of
California serves on the Judiciary Committee and has the power to
change this schedule.

There's no need to rush Alito through the confirmation process.
Justice O'Connor has indicated her willigness to continue serving
until her replacement is ready to be sworn in. Fundamental questions
about the legality of the President's actions are still outstanding,
and need to be resolved immediately.

Tell Senator Feinstein that no one
is above the law -- and Judge Alito can wait a few weeks for Congress
to use its power of checks and balances and defend our Constitution:

Our civil liberties have been fundamentally and systematically
violated by a President and administration who seem to believe the
rule of law does not apply to them. Holding the President accountable
before the law is certainly a more urgent matter than replacing a
still-serving Supreme Court justice.

Tell Senator Feinstein that we need to
get our priorities straight and get to the bottom of illegal
eavesdropping before the Alito hearings:

Then, please forward this newsletter to everyone you know in California
to help spread the word about this important campaign!

THANK YOU for working to build a better world,
