Multi-billion rice project on course

The Dominion group of companies says it will not be cowed into pulling out of the Yala Swamp where it is undertaking a multi billion-shilling rice growing project.
Dominion Group president Calvin Burgess said the primary aim of his company was to increase the country's food production so as it could stop depending on imports.


Mr Burgess claimed that an international NGO based in the area was inciting a section of the community against Dominion's activities and challenged it to divert its resources towards poverty alleviation activities. The investor was speaking at Aduwa market and Kadenge- Ratuoro in Bondo and Siaya districts respectively during a meeting with the local residents.


Burgess who was accompanied by Bondo MP, Dr. Oburu Odinga asked Kenyans to be wary of international busy bodies who are taking advantage of their poverty and do anything to ensure that the status quo remains.


Dominion group plans to construct a multi-billion shillings dam at Yala, but its move was almost thwarted by some local resident over land disagreement.
