Frankly, I can't think of anything more disrespectful towards mother nature than to assume that they know best and decide to disregard hundreds of thousands of years of human evolution (off a tree of millions of years) that led us to be at the top of the food chain. We're an omnivorous mammal species, deal with it.

In the same sense than a diet rich in animal and processed foods is not healthy, a diet that goes on the opposite end of the spectrum is also not very recommendable. Moderation and common sense, something which these parents obviously were severely lacking.
