39. I'd say we see things more or less the same way.
I see where you are comming from with all of these points. My cheif worry is that not only are the key issues of the day going nowhere, but its also the potential movement of public opinion regarding congress.

In '06 the Dems enjoyed an energized base, a demoralized opponent, and a clear distinction on Iraq. In '08 I know they are counting on the same thing, but meanwhile everyone on the left is getting frustrated and demoralized, and thier failure to change anything on Iraq drags them toward culpability. The water is also getting muddier being that lots of repukes up for reelection are smelling the blood and running in the direction of withdrawl.

This is why I wish Pelosi was taking a more aggressive approach. I think she stands to loose less by continiuing to show that there is a fighting wing to the Democratic party however beaten by the rest of the party it might be. Additionally I think that there is a chance she could rally the triangulators in the right direction if she put them in the position of having to repeatedly cast unpopular votes. I am not that worried about the democrats looking inept, because I think a growing portion of the population already sees them as inept or spineless.

And yes, you are right that this would all be much more auspicious if there weren't a lot of jellifish masquerading as donkeys in congress. I'll concede that as the core issue here. My big shtick is that I would prefer that Pelosi dealt with them differently than she has been. I realize she can't change them, but you can deal with cowards by persuading them that there isn't a safe course for them. This is why armies used to shoot deserters - to persuade the cowards in thier midst that running away doesn't equate to safety.
