57. Sure
Not that the question gets asked flat out often (wonder why that is?), but even the recent poll that did ask it flat out had impeaching cheney (the "real" honcho) at 54%. The bushkid number was only 45, but as I said that included 31% of Dems opposed or undecided in reaction to pushback from the DC "leaders."

But even before the election, a majority (51%) wanted impeachment as a "priority" for the new congress:

A Jan. Newsweek poll found that 59% "personally wish{ed} that George W. Bush's presidency was over."

And going as far back as Jan. '06, a Zogby poll for democrats.com showed a "Majority of Americans Support Impeaching Bush for Wiretapping."

While Pelosi saying "off the table" has depressed the number responding in favor to some recent polls, that's more a reflection of what people think is likely to happen than whether or not they support impeaching.

But even if the public really didn't support it, that would be no excuse for dereliction of constitutional duty -- for acting as the regime's firewall. It's not a valid reason not to impeach, but just another rationalization for inaction.
