Other than that, he had no idea why he was a Republican? My own Grandpa was also a Republican. He worked 40 years at the sawmill. He believed strongly in the "work ethic". Out of the 6 boys and 4 girls, my Dad was the only Democrat in the family. Sometimes I think he became a Democrat just to spite his Dad.

One time, Kentucky had a race for Governor and the Republican running was named Louie Nunn. I forget the Democrats name because he didn't win. The Republican was running on the promise that he would do away with the .03 cents state tax. That was enough for Grandpa. He was going to vote for the Republican.

However, after all the votes had been counted and the new Republican Governor was sworn in, he raised the tax rate to .04 cents. My Grandpa was incensed. The new Governor explained that he didn't do anything he didn't promise to do. He did away with the .03 cents tax rate. And replaced it with the new .04 cents tax rate.

Grandpa joked that all these other states had great Governors. New York had Rockefeller and so forth. But Kentucky had Nunn. He meant that to mean zero.

But with this election approaching, I wonder again about the Republican Party and what kind of people vote Republican? What makes them stay with their Party after such a disaster as we have gone thru for the last 7 1/2 years? How do they rationalize it? Certainly they do not see it in the same disastrous light as myself. Even though they have suffered the same ill effects from the medicine.

I wonder about the psychology of people that put their Party above their common sense. They continue to vote against their own self interests, at least the majority of them do. And I wonder if they will be competitive when the election rolls around in November? Something tells me these folks are not too bright. But they vote...
