Few escape the Xinhua wall and make it to the world news. China has, throughout the majority of its long and glorious history, generally been either in a civil war, or on the brink of one.

On edit: The Ministry of Public Security says last year there were more than 58,000 "mass incidents" - the term they use to describe public protests - involving three million people: that is an increase of almost 15% over the year before.
