Gas Rationing In Vicksburg Over Worries About Supply Shortages

http://www.wjtv.com/gulfcoastwest/jtv/news/local.apx.-content-articles-JTV-2008-09-11-0011.html

News channel 12 has learned that gas stations in Vicksburg are rationing gas to customers. The move comes as oil companies worry about shortages as Hurricane Ike moves through the Gulf Coast.

Exxon Mobil, Valero, ConocoPhillips and Marathon are among the companies halting operations at refineries on the Texas coast. The refineries in the area account for about one-fifth of the nation's refining capacity. Exxon Mobil's refinery outside Houston is the nation's largest.

Supply concerns have sent wholesale prices soaring today. The price refineries charge to retailers has jumped to record levels between $4 and $5 a gallon on the Gulf Coast.

Charlotte, NC (WBTV)- The storm having an impact here in Charlotte before it even hits.

At the Petro Express on Wilkinson Boulevard on the West Side of the city and at all Petro Express and Kangaroo stations are asking customers to limit gas purchases to ten gallons. Experts anticipate Hurricane Ike could hit oil refineries in the gulf hard even harder than Katrina.

Prices are already climbing. Triple A says the average cost of a gallon of gas is three-sixty-seven in North Carolina...two cents higher here in Charlotte and it's at about three-fifty-six in South Carolina.
