Don't give me that weak shit. Tribalism is everywhere. It's in the Catholic church when they preach against gays, it's in Kenya, where Obama's dad or any other member of his tribe wouldn't get elected dogcatcher. It's in Japan when racists there bitch about the Koreans next door. Anywhere social solidarity is used as a tool to inflame ignorance to hate, that's what's at work. Call it religion, call it ethnocentrism, call it nationalism, patriotism, whatever--all it needs is an edifice of authority and leaders who will abuse it for their own ends. Those ends can be good and just, or nasty and bigoted. In the latter case the main fault lies with those leaders, and a smaller part lies with their gullible followers. The edifice of authority can be any fucking thing imaginable, so long as people believe in it.
