Area: USA, State of New York, Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, Rochester

A loss of some control room alarms caused the Ginna nuclear power plant in Wayne County to go into emergency mode on Thursday. The plant declared an "unusual event" at 2:13 p.m. Thursday because of the loss of some control room announciators. An unusual event is the lowest of four emergency levels used by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The unusual event at the Ginna plant in Ontario was terminated at 4:35 a.m. Friday, when the alarms were restored, tested, and returned to service.

Area: USA, State of Arkansas, Arkansas One Nuclear Power Plant‎, Russellville

Entergy Corp's 836-megawatt Arkansas Nuclear 1 power station in Arkansas was shut early Friday, after being manually tripped from 61 percent power late Thursday, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in separate reports. The unit was manually tripped due to "control rod drive motor (CRD) high temperatures due to a loss of cooling water flow" from the non-nuclear side of the facility, the NRC's event notification report said. A spokesman said air leaking into the non-nuclear cooling system had been isolated following the manual shutdown. Repairs were underway and the outage was not expected to be lengthy. The NRC report said the plant, in Russellville, Arkansas, about 75 miles (120 km) northwest of Little Rock, was stable and no significant equipment issues were observed. The adjacent 988-MW Unit 2 continued to run at full power, the NRC's reactor status report said. One MW powers about 500 homes in Arkansas.

Area: United Kingdom, England, Lancashire, Heysham

British Energy's Heysham 1-1 nuclear power reactor shut down on Friday, a spokeswoman for the company said, less than a week after restarting from a lengthy repair outage. "Heysham 1 unit one had an unplanned shutdown at about 1630 GMT," she said, adding that the reason for the shutdown was being investigated.
