Every once in a while, we make it--and its flag--mean more than that. Too many of our own, though, are failed every single goddamned day. This is not the greatest country on Earth, and little experiment in representative plutocracy is not the best form of government.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Me? I'll salute the flag at least once the day DADT is repealed. That will be one of those good moments that might make an important long-term difference.
