My late husband died in similar circumstances.
My patriotism has been strained since then to say the least.
It was strained even more when I found that the government thought it should negotiate with the for-profit health insurance and delivery industries instead of destroying them by way of efficient single-payer.
It was broken once and for all when I found that citizens of flesh and blood did not matter beside ones of paper and interest.

I am sorry for your loss. The government should earn whatever respect you give it.
Social neglect should never be rewarded.
