Cheney spends night in Iraq before other Mideast stops

POSTED: 9:41 a.m. EDT, May 10, 2007

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney visited U.S. troops Thursday in Iraq's Salaheddin province after a sleepover outside Tikrit, making him the highest-ranking U.S. official to spend the night in the country since the war began.

The vice president spent 29 hours in Iraq before boarding Air Force Two for his next destination, the United Arab Emirates.

While in Salaheddin, Cheney slept in the "distinguished visitors quarters" at Camp Speicher, a sprawling desert outpost seven miles from the northern city of Tikrit, said reporters traveling with his delegation.

The camp -- officially named Contingency Operating Base Speicher -- is named after Scott Speicher, the Navy pilot who was shot down on the first day of the Persian Gulf War in 1991. He is presumed dead.

After waking up, Cheney had a breakfast of scrambled eggs as he exchanged chitchat with soldiers Thursday morning. (Watch how Cheney's message is designed to increase pressure on Iraqi leaders )

A senior Bush administration official said the purpose of Cheney's visit to Baghdad was to tell the Iraqi government, "It's game time."

"We've got to pull together. We've got to get this work done," the official said, summarizing Cheney's message to Iraq's leaders. (Watch what Cheney means when he says it's "game time" )

Is CNN and Cheney serious with this BS report?
