the WH Correspondents dinner is one of the few times that President Obama put aside the niceties and took some much needed jabs at those individuals and groups that repeatedly tried to disrespect him. I maybe mixing up this dinner with another, but I remember President Obama getting some good ones in on Michael Steele and John Boehner in the past.

So yeah, they may not like having to spend their time there when they could be doing something else, but the dinner provides a much needed acceptable venue for presidents to vent some frustration (at least in the recent years).
