The phone, in particular, is an important piece of evidence. Any homicide detective would conclude it was murder if the cell phone the victim habitually carries was missing without a convincing explanation.

Suicides don't normally toss phones and other pocket items, and they certainly don't wipe them clean before overdosing and slicing their own wrists.

The watch may have been a leave-behind message or warning from the murderers to others: "Time's Up for Whistleblowers", or something like that.
