Many of the big stadiums already have long-term contracts with NFL teams. Thus any new league would have to play in smaller facilities and/or in smaller markets. The fact the NFL has expanded to so many cities also makes it difficult for a new league to take root as there are few cities that are as hungry for a pro team today than there was 50 plus years ago.

Also remember, the AFL began in the early days of television...NBC and ABC were hungry for a new league to compete with the NFL that was only on CBS. Today there's more sports on teevee than one can watch...and the void will be filled with more college games. Players leagues have never gone well as its not the players who end up running it but their agents who in turn become a new class of owners.
