ASHEVILLE — Residents of the Occupy Asheville encampment were offered a touch of the holy Monday as a religious group washed the feet of protest participants at their Lexington Avenue digs.

The Texas-based religious group Time to Revive visited the parking lot under Interstate 240 where protesters have been camping out as part of the ongoing national Occupy Wall Street protests.

“A lot of people have labeled these guys as weird and maybe written them off,” said Kyle Martin, who led the group of about 45 to Asheville for a seven-day prayer tour around the city. “But what we’re asking is, ‘Where would Jesus go?’ And maybe that’s right here.”

The City Council is set to decide today how to deal with N.C. Department of Transportation concerns over where and if the campers should be moved, as well as whether to waive fees of around $2,000 the protesters owe for camping in a public parking lot.

About 40 tents were still standing under the overpass Monday, but many occupants were considering a change of campsite venue before today’s meeting.

'Occupy Asheville' faced a protest of their own this weekend. Two members of the Carolina Stompers drove a large truck by the "occupy" camp Saturday morning and blared the horn. Counter-protest organizer Chad Nesbitt said he wanted to give Occupy Asheville a wake-up call. Nesbitt said the "occupy" movement is made up of socialists who are living off of taxpayer dollars. :rofl: Some members of 'Occupy Asheville' called the counter-protest was harassment.
