Bush won Iowa by 10,000 votes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Thursday 18th November, 2004

Iowa's final tally shows President Bush defeated Democrat John Kerry by 10,059 votes, the Des Moines Register reported Wednesday.

The final margin amounted to less than 1 percent of the 1.5 million ballots cast by Iowa voters in the 2004 presidential election. It is the second-closest margin in the nation -- behind Wisconsin -- proportional to its total votes.

Iowa was one of four states where votes for Bush and Kerry differed by about 1 percentage point. The others were New Hampshire, where Kerry won by 9,171; New Mexico, where Bush won by 6,061 and Wisconsin, where Kerry won by 11,813, according to unofficial totals.

Thats not very many!!! I wonder if we get a recount there I suspect 10000 votes stolen!!!

Gotta question is Nader asking for a recount in Iowa and New Mexico is close too!!!

5. I'm from IA orginally - Things are strange in Iowa

I have spoken to my many family members who still live there and they can not believe Bush beat Kerry there at all. They feel there are shadows puppets to the Bushco threat living near by. Many believe that the absentee ballots were not counted correctly, etc. All of Dubuque IA citizens are Democrats (strong), as is Iowa City, Des Moines, Waterloo, etc., etc.

17. DEMAND A RECOUNT!
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 04:49 AM by Carolab
Tell them to request a recount.

Less than 1% difference qualifies.

Here are the rules:

4. A well done recount (hand recount, monitored by both parties)
Would be interesting. It would help to establish how accurate the exit polls actually were, among other things.

10. In Iowa they use absentee Ballots due to

the many farmers who live in the rural areas who can not get into town to vote so there are a lot of concerns surrounding them them.

8. What does that mean for Ohio's Provisional Ballots???
This seems to mean that Kerry caught up around 2,000-3,000 votes based on the Provisional Ballots in Iowa.

Now... Ohio has LOTS more ballots to review... but not THAT many. Ohio's voting population is 3-4 times that of Iowa. Does that imply that the RWers are correct in assuming we're only going to pick up around 10,000 of the 135,000 we need?

What factors would make Ohio's stock of provisional ballots substantially different from Iowa's?

11. I was surprised Iowa fell
I thought if Kerry lose one of the upper Mid-west states, it would be Wisconsin.

I thought he'd hold them all though, and Bush's efforts there would be a waste of resources.

They had some kind of tabulation problems on election nite.

THEY SENT EVERYONE HOME, said they were tired, and they came back the next day to finish.

The news guy about fell off his chair when he was told that.

16. Maybe Kerry should have spent some of that left over $15 million?
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 02:54 AM by Democat
10,000 fucking votes? What was Kerry going to do with that extra money?

Ohio and some of these other states were in play and he held back money?

18. He wasn't allowed to spend the leftover money on his campaign
It was leftover primary funds - at least that's my understanding. I could be wrong. But if it was funds from before the convention, then he wasn't allowed to spend any of it.

However, he could have given it to the DNC. I don't know why he didn't. As someone who really likes Kerry and is a big Kerry fan, I have to admit that I can't see a good reason for not at least doing this. Who knows?

19. I'd be interested
in seeing the number of absentee ballots that were also cast. Those usually favor democrats...Maybe the republicans had a better push on election day to GOTV.

Either way, it was always a close state. Gore won by ~4000 votes and he actually got less votes on election day. He won by absentee ballots.
