Clarke: Clinton worried about al-Qaida

By PETE YOST
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

WASHINGTON -- The Clinton administration was deeply concerned in 2000 that al-Qaida sleeper cells existed in North America and considered ways to move against them, according to newly released testimony.

"There were two simultaneous plots, one in Jordan and one in the United States, and they both involved American citizens," Bush administration critic Richard Clarke testified in June 2002 before a congressional inquiry into the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The plots were of high enough interest that Republican Sen. Richard Shelby, the former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, requested a briefing.

"The conclusion was that we should ... beef up the counterterrorism task force around the country," said Clarke, whose testimony about the briefing of Shelby in February 2000 was partially blacked out because of national security concerns.

The release of Clarke's 2002 testimony stems from Republican attempts to undermine his criticism of the Bush administration.

2. Frist is snorting catnip again...
...stolen from the paws of his victims:

<snip>
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said Clarke's recently declassified testimony from 2002 is effusive in its praise of the Bush administration's efforts targeting al-Qaida before the Sept. 11 attacks.

The declassified version neither criticizes nor strongly praises the Bush administration. It focuses instead primarily on the Clinton administration.
</snip>

Frist isn't only creepy-looking, he has reading comprehension issues, as well...:eyes:

3. You do realize what this means?
If this article is true, then Bill Clinton was the one who was trying to get rid of al-Qaida, NOT Bush. The administration of al-Shrub swept this under the rug. They had to do so intentionally. After all those years of demonizing Clinton about being soft on terrorists, it finally comes out that it was BUSH, not Clinton, who had the problem. When will people learn that bad leadership is the cause of bad decisions? When will they learn that the shrub is ruining this country in every way possible, including our national security?

4. No, it's exactly the opposite!
Don't you see? Them al-Kidies had such technologicimal equipment that they was able to tune in to Klintoons thought waves! And when they found out that he was thinkin' about gettin' rid of them, they went runnin' to ole Soddom and he give 'em box cutters and bought 'em plane tickets and all.

Hell, it was Klintoon brought them terrists down on us, just like frogs in the Bible!!

6. And I find it interesting that Shelby's name finally surfaces.
What a bastard. If he knew that Clinton was concerned about al Qaeda, why hasn't he spoken up about it? Shelby was in the Middle East in the Summer of 2001 to investigate this situation and he came back stating that we had "bin Laden on the run."

I swear, I will never, never trust a Republican.

7. i never bought any of it in the first place.
Bush and the richie riches of the world have only benefitted from 9/11. They would have impeached Clinton for it. Remember to that the WTC bombing #1 happened on Clinton's watch, only a few months in, but he still had Bush 1's cabinent in place, yet he never once blamed Bush, not once.

8. exactly
BC was inaugurated 1/20/1993
WTC bombing 2/26/1993

Repukes blamed Clinton relentlessly for the 1993 incident.

GW was installed 1/20/2001
WTC demolished 9/11/2001

Repukes blamed Clinton for NOT preventing it.

These bastards only know how to hate and blame others. They are also destructive.

There is no longer any creative, insightful, enlightened leadership with Repukes in charge. Yet this is what the sheeple wanted. Sheesh!

9. One month, six days into Clinton's Administration.
The first attempt to destroy the WTC was on February 26, 1993.
