Families learn truth about Red Caps' deaths(Welsh soldiers killed in Iraq)
Families of the two North Red Caps murdered in Iraq last night called for an independent inquiry into the deaths after admitting they were not satisfied with the Army's official report.

Cpl Simon Miller, 21, of Washington, and Cpl Paul Long, 24, of South Shields, were among the six Red Caps ambushed and killed by an angry Iraqi mob, 120 miles north of Basra last June.

A report into their deaths by an Army Board of Inquiry released yesterday announced it had found "no conclusive evidence" that the Red Caps' deaths could have been prevented.

But families of the six men last night said they still wanted to see the senior officers in charge that day held accountable.

The inquiry placed much of the blame on confusion between the Red Caps and senior Army officers.
