OTTAWA - The conservative-leaning Fox News Channel will soon be coming to Canadian digital television channels.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved an application Thursday to bring the Fox News Channel, one of the highest-rated news channels in the United States, onto Canadian digital airwaves.

The Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA) applied to the broadcast regulator in April.

Canadians already have access to the main Fox network, but not the right-leaning, 24-hour news channel, with its trademarked slogan of "fair and balanced."

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) opposed the application, saying it would discourage foreign broadcasters from partnering with Canadian broadcasters.

I was thinking of pitcairn island too... the only problem with pitcairn is that the gene pool is a tad bit shallow. Also, they do not have cable, but some residents have satellite TV i presume, which means they probably have FOX NEWS too. They do have a satellite internet connection to the island though.

I don't get that anyway. It should only be allowed to be sold to those who explicitly order it, not bundled with other stuff that people really want. But, Fox will probably be angling to be included with the Science Fiction channel or the Cartoon network, so that you are stuck with them if you want to see Duckman (or whatever).

but only 600 people wrote in to the CRTC re: Fox's application. Al Jazeera's application got 1800 replies.

Fox even had a notice on their website, encouraging viewers to write to the CRTC.

If Fox shamelessly promoted themselves, yet received such a paltry number, you can bet your bippy we just aren't all that interested. :P
