"I have no reason to believe that I'll be unable to support any individual President Bush finds worthy" of the federal bench, Specter told reporters.
UGH - THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF EVEN BEING THERE? WHAT?
Bye bye democracy, it's been fun.

2. read from a statement he wrote that was cleared painstakingly in advance |
|
BUT - he will only "do his best to stop filibuster" - meaning he did NOT endorse nuclear option.

Never has.
The closest this ass ever came to having a set of balls is when he walked by a candy store and saw a sack of Whoppers...

5. The vote on the nuclear option is going to be very close |
|
They obviously won't try the maneuver unless they know they have 51 votes to uphold the presiding officer's ruling. That means we need 6 Republicans (assuming no Democratic defections): 1) McCain. Has indicated he has a problem with the nuclear option 2) Snowe. I read something about her not being convinced it was a good idea. 3) Chaffee 4) Collins
Need two more. Specter has not come out for the nuclear option. I think I recall reading about him proposing some compromise that would also ensure a vote on executive nominees within 30 days though. That's just as bad. Not sure if some old timers who worry about what will happen when the Republicans are in the minority someday could be persuaded to vote against it. Maybe a Lugar or someone like that.
I'll bet it passes 52-48 absent some major pressure.

8. I believe Chuck Hegel will be a no vote as well. And possibly Luger. |
|
There may be some others as well. Even some conservatives think this is a bad idea, as it could come back to haunt the Republicans if they lose control of the Senate. I don't think the Pubs actually intend to do this. They are hoping the threat of it will make the Dems cave. The Dems need to just bide their time and keep their powder dry until there actually is a nominee they want to filibuster.

and after hearing Lindsay Grahams comments i would say his ssupport is about a half an inch thick an maybe 2 feet wide. Spector will be rubber stamping every judge that comes his way to pay back his less than solid support.
