White House Warns Ukraine to Guard Voting
KILLEEN, Texas - Three days before the presidential election in Ukraine, the White House said Thursday the initial round of voting did not meet a "basic test" of a truly democratic process and that the government should ensure Sunday's balloting is better.

"The people of Ukraine ... have the right and deserve the opportunity to make their choice freely, without intimidation or fear, from outside or within," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said in a statement. "The presidential campaign and first round of voting did not meet that basic test."

Elections on Oct. 31 produced a virtual tie between Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, who is backed by the outgoing government and the Kremlin, and opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko, a Western-leaning reformer. Their run-off Sunday culminates a campaign that is considered an important test of democracy in the former Soviet republic of 48 million.

International election observers have complained of heavy state media bias and government interference in favor of Yanukovych and called the voting a step backward for democracy.

6. The initial round was suspect because of EXIT POLLS!!!!
The exit polls showed the challenger leading!

That was the cause for suspicion, and that's what got tens of thousands into the streets of Kiev.

America - Where the FUCK are you?!?

16. Yep,
teach them how to vote when so much voter corruption exists in this country.

Iraq is suppose to vote but only 14 out of 18 districts will be allowed as encouraged by the U.S. government. The reason being they are not ready to vote because of problems in the district. Sure wish we could have done that....it was said Florida had problems, Ohio had problems and surely were not ready to vote as not enough machines were available for the on slaught of voters. We should have eliminated Florida and Ohio and voted using just the other 49 states. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:kick:

34. not that they'd care, Eastern European oligarchy is exactly what
the Bushies and their Milt Friedman laissez-faire fiend friends want to impose on the entire planet. The reeking, corrupt nations are held as ideals and goals for the globalization movement as the best "success" of privatization and deregulation there is. And what examples they are.

39. Typical RepubliCON
strategy. It isn't a joke, it's a bamboozle, a con, a red herring, a "if you tell a big enough lie, people will believe it" kind of a thing. By making this statement, the WH is able to convince the already convinced that they really are defenders of Democracy while simultaneously rubbing salt into the wounds of his enemies who know otherwise.
