Baghdad's spiralling transport costs

A 15-mile stretch between Baghdad airport and the city centre is said to be the world's most expensive taxi ride.

Small convoys of armoured cars and Western gunmen charge about £2,750 ($5,108) for the perilous journey.

3. Can someone explain...
How the reporters manage around the city. I know some are "embedded" but how about the ones that aren't?

5. They never leave the green zone...
They stay in the 'safe' part of Baghdad surrounded by U.S. troops and only have to worry about rocket and mortar attacks. Many don't even leave their hotels. They have iraqi 'stringers' who go out and get stories, and then bring them back to their hotels where they write them up and sat them back to America.

Don't trust any story by an american reporter in Iraq, unless he's on screen surrounded by iraqis, wearing a bulletproof vest.

Otherwise he's standing on the rooftop of a building guarded by 200 U.S. Soldiers, and he's still nervous.
