House inserts anti-abortion provision into must-pass spending bill

Negotiators Add Abortion Clause to Spending Bill
By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG and CARL HULSE

Published: November 20, 2004 New York Times

ASHINGTON, Saturday, Nov. 20 - House and Senate negotiators have tucked a potentially far-reaching anti-abortion provision into a $388 billion must-pass spending bill, complicating plans for Congress to wrap up its business and adjourn for the year.

The provision may be an early indication of the growing political muscle of social conservatives who provided crucial support for Republican candidates, including President Bush, in the election.

House officials said Saturday morning that the final details of the spending measure were worked out before midnight and that the bill was filed for the House vote on Saturday.

The abortion language would bar federal, state and local agencies from withholding taxpayer money from health care providers that refuse to provide or pay for abortions or refuse to offer abortion counseling or referrals. Current federal law, aimed at protecting Roman Catholic doctors, provides such "conscience protection'' to doctors who do not want to undergo abortion training. The new language would expand that protection to all health care providers, including hospitals, doctors, clinics and insurers.

13. Yes, I agree - suprises me to hear about this from them
And I am not suprised about the provisional rider - that kind of crap seems to be the norm for these cretins.

4. they also put in H-1B increases
Engineering unemployment is greater than the national average.

It's well known the engineers are in big trouble due to outsourcing.

an H-1B Visa allows corporations to hire foreigners at much cheaper
salary than an American and further increases the labor pool,
thus depressing wages.

So, here we go, a government run amok.

Women go back into the stone age.

8. We Are Being Punished For Not Turning into Republicans
You're supposed to become Republican as soon as you have more than two cents to rub together.
Most of the computer geeks didn't.
The regime has been punishing us for that ever since 2000.

They won't be satisfied until they've got us all working
for slave wages for their special skills draft and getting
shot at in Iraq|Iran|Syria|wherever.

19. Shrub's STD to us..
Found elsewhere:

New STD, complements of shrub and cronies -----

The Centers for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new
virulent strain of sexually transmitted disease. This disease is
contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior. The disease is
called Gonorrhea lecthim (pronounced "gonna re-elect him"). Many victims
have contracted it after having been screwed for the past 4 years, and
in spite of having taken measures to protect themselves from this
especially virulent disease.

Cognitive sequellae of individuals infected with Gonorrhea lecthim
include, but are not limited to: Anti-social personality disorder
traits; delusions of grandeur with a distinct messianic flavor; chronic
mangling of the English language; extreme cognitive dissonance;
inability to incorporate new information; pronounced xenophobia;
inability to accept responsibility for actions; exceptional cowardice
masked by acts of misplaced bravado; ignorance of geography and history;
tendencies toward creating evangelical theocracies; and a strong
propensity for categorical, all-or nothing behavior.

5. This is a medical rights issue
This is worse than back alley abortions. This is women who are sick and need medical care and are going to have hospitals that won't do abortions and/or doctors who don't even know how. Abortion is not written up in medical journals. How to handle unusual circumstances has to be taught, from doctor to doctor. This is the worst thing they could do, worse than overturning Roe.

6. The Taliborn Again are on the prowl
Like a festering Anal Fissure, these creeps not only will not go away, they are going to spread to other parts of the body.

I hope they all get caught in flagrante delicto, (openly in the act) in the immoral hidden vices they all seem to have.

Like Swaggert who was caught openly and brazenly, enjoying the services of a $15.00 sexual encounter with a diseased street prostitute.

7. I guess a woman dying isn't a problem for their conscience
Even if a doctor chooses to not perform abortions as part of their medical practice, that doesn't mean that they shouldn't learn how to do the procedure. There are those rare cases where the mother's life is at stake, and if she dies, so does the fetus. This may not be an issue in a large urban hospital, but in the middle of the night in a small town, there may only be one doctor for miles. Expanding the protection to all hospitals, doctors, clinics and insurers could effectively shut down all abortion rights in a state in a matter of months.

12. Ann Telnaes drew it all . . .
when she depicts, here, GWBush as judicial-nominee-tailor, picking, choosing and tailoring the next U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice w/ a litmus test of anti-Roe v. Wade. All while holding the symbol of the pre-Roe back-alley abortion's filthy tool, a wire coathanger that killed and maimed women. The wire coat-hanger will become prevalent again when Roe is aborted.

Congress has the green light go-ahead to tuck an anti-abortion amendment here or there -- nibbling away at a women's constitutional right of choice -- for at least the next two years, maybe more.

15. Not this law.
This law just expands existing law, which applies only to some health care providers and already has withstood such challenges, to apply to all health care providers.

18. What was designed for good intentions has been abused, yet again.
It's disgusting that irrelevant, unrelated, and/or unpopular bills can be slipped in like this.

It's underhanded and unethical.

'nuff said.
