Attacks, Fighting Break Out in Baghdad
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents attacked a police station Saturday in a Sunni Muslim neighborhood in Baghdad where U.S. and Iraqi troops raided a major mosque the day before in a crackdown on Sunni militants. Iraqi officials were trying to identify four decapitated bodies found in Mosul.

Also, insurgents attacked a U.S. Army patrol Saturday in Baghdad, killing one American soldier and injuring nine others, the U.S. military said. The unit came under coordinated attack, which included roadside bombs, small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades, the military said.

In downtown Baghdad, a suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle, killing one civilian and injuring another, witnesses said, as a thunderous rumble of explosions reverberated elsewhere in the Iraqi capital.

Violence Breaks Out All Over Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Baghdad exploded in violence Saturday, as insurgents attacked a U.S. patrol and a police station, assassinated four government employees and detonated several bombs. One American soldier was killed and nine were wounded during clashes that also left three Iraqi troops and a police officer dead.

Some of the heaviest violence came in Azamiyah, a largely Sunni Arab district of Baghdad where a day earlier U.S. troops raided the capital's main Sunni mosque. Shops were in flames, and a U.S. Humvee burned, with the body of what appeared to be its driver inside.

U.S. forces and insurgents also battled in the Sunni Triangle city of Ramadi, where clashes have been seen almost daily. Nine Iraqis were killed and five wounded in Saturday's fighting, hospital officials said.

6. Baghdad violence erupts as Iraqi-US troops press on with sweep of Mosul
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 01:52 PM by maddezmom
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Baghdad was again rocked by violence as rebels launched an assault on a police station and four civil servants were assassinated, while US and Iraqi troops took the battle against insurgents from Fallujah to Mosul.

Gunmen launched an assault on a police station in Baghdad's Adhamiya neighbourhood, a day after US and Iraqi troops rounded up more than 30 suspects following Friday prayers in one of Iraq (news - web sites)'s most important mosques.

One policeman was killed and another wounded in the attack, which saw US helicopters deployed in response, amid fears that insurgents who managed to flee the massive anti-insurgency operation in Fallujah were regrouping in Baghdad.

The group of Al-Qaeda frontman in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi -- one of the main targets of the Fallujah campaign -- claimed responsibility for the assault against the police in a statement posted on the Internet.

4. Sattler is a disgrace to the men who serve under him...
a shill for Shrub. His own men disagree with him and today he's already backing off his remarks. The attack on a Sunni mosque has only added to the anger over the slaughter in Fallujah. These people are not going to vote in an election for a government they feel is run by Shiites and the US. Instead, it looks more like a scenario for civil war.
