Illinois Rep. Weds Ex-Dictator's Daughter
ANTIGUA, Guatemala -- They met during a trade mission, and despite controversy over their engagement, U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller of Illinois and the outspoken daughter of former Guatemalan dictator Efrain Rios Montt tied the knot Saturday in a civil ceremony.

About 300 people -- including Rios Montt -- attended the wedding of the Republican congressman from central Illinois and Zury Rios Sosa, a 36-year-old Guatemalan senator. Security was tight as the two exchanged wedding vows at a mansion belonging to the former dictator.

Rios Sosa wore a creamed-colored, strapless dress, Weller a black suit. U.S. Ambassador to Guatemala John Hamilton also attended.

A large security team watched the home, which also was encircled by a high stone wall topped by electrified wire, in this colonial mountain town popular with tourists.

Weller's opponents criticized the engagement because Rios Montt, a retired general who seized control of Guatemala for 18 months in 1982-83, is accused of leading one of the bloodiest campaigns in the nation's 36-year civil war, which killed 200,000 people.

9    GENERAL EFRAIN RIOS MONT
President of Guatemala
"A Christian has to walk around with his Bible and his machine gun," said born-again General Efrain Rios Mont, military ruler of Guatemala from March 1982 to August 1983. Rios Mont was one in a long series of dictators who ran Guatemala after the Dulles brothers and United Fruit, backed by the CIA, decided that elected President Jacob Arbenz held the country "in the grip of a Russian-controlled dictatorship" and overthrew the country's constitutional democracy in 1954. The succession of corrupt military dictators ruled Guatemala for over 30 years, one anti-communist tyrant after another receiving U.S. support, aid, and training.
After the 1982 coup that brought Rios Mont to power, U.S. Ambassador Frederic C. Chapin said Guatemala "has come out of the darkness and into the light." President Reagan claimed Mont was given "a bum rap" by human rights groups, and that he was cleaning up problems inherited from his predecessor, General Romeo Lucas Garcia. Ironically, Garcia had given $500,000 to Reagan's 1980 campaign, and his henchman, Mario Sandoval Alarcon, the "Godfather" of Central American death squads, was a guest at Reagan's first inaugural celebration. Sandoval proudly calls his National Liberation Movement "the party of organized violence."
Mont simply moved Garcia's dirty war from urban centers to the countryside "where the spirit of the Lord" guided him against "communist subversives", mostly indigenous Indians. As many as 10,000 Indians were killed and over 100,000 fled to Mexico as a result of Mont's "Christian" campaign.

8. Ashamed to say it...
But I'm from Joliet, Weller's district, and thus in the belly of the beast...I knew JW was an incompetent fascist before he even married one, back home we used to call him Welly the Clown for his bald pate and immobile stupid grin. I have a prized letter from him dated March 8, 2003 saying that we must support W's war in Iraq because Saddam's "danger posed by weapons of mass destruction." To date, not one apology...but he's a faker and a shit, and pledging to spend more time in Guatemala doesn't seem to smack of devotion to voters in Morris or Channahon or Joliet...it's too bad that good Dems like Tari Renner and Keith Van Duyne haven't been able to crack the Fascist Gay-Bashing Hate network that is Jerry Weller. Let's defeat this bastard, Will County....

11. Will County DUers out there?
I kow ProfessorGAC and Kitka, is there anyone else out there from this dimwitted fascist's little fiefdom? Because I'm tired of being represented by him, and I can't figure out why good guys keep losing to this shlump...I know there's a massive contigent of booze-soaked gay-hatin' "love It or Leave It" types in Morris, Minooka, Channahon, etc...I know many such people far too well, but I think the probolem is that we need to go totally negative with big bucks, and I mean a dirty dirty war with (in the words of a Weller predecessor in loatsomeness)a bucketfull of shit and who knows how to sling it where it'll do the most good...Maybe we can get a DUer to run....it always looks to me like the Will COunty Dems just send someone to the slaughter, knowing he'll lose...even if that is the case, why not play dirty, and attack, attack, attack? What's there to lose by attacking Weller, his dictator father-in-law and his repugnant record 365 days a year? I'm up for it if you are!

14. Ha -- apparently you've never been to "Snaggletooth Cafe"
where all the fat, teddy-bear-vest wearing GOPers go snort up pan sausage and talk about who got kicked off of Survivor.

No, Republicans don't get good ass -- that's why they're so uptight.

16. Dad? Can I call you dad?
I always wanted a REAL Republican for a father in law. So tell me about those massacres again? Did you actually get to shoot peasants? That is SOOOOO COOOOL. I think I'm gonna like this family. Hey, can I torture some restless Indio to death, then toss his body on the highway as a warning to others? I always thought that was SOOOOO COOOOL.
