Kan. Man Protests Porn Opponents
SALINA, Kan. -- A man spent a week on the roof of one of two adult bookstores in town to protest a movement to have the stores investigated for obscenity.

Ray Morris, 38, came down from his perch on top of Behind Closed Doors on Saturday morning after staying in a tent there since the previous Saturday.

"I can't stress enough that I am not promoting porn," Morris said. "I'm promoting the idea of choice. Everyone has a right to choose whether they want to enter these stores."

Some local residents are gathering signatures in a petition drive to force a grand jury to investigate whether Behind Closed Doors and another store, Priscilla's, are promoting obscenity by selling sex products.

2. Don't those residents know
those are the stores where O'Reilly gets replacements for his vibrator.

If Bill knew they were wasting all that time getting signatures to investigate the porn stores he'd redirect (misdirect?) them towards turning their anger on France.

Some local residents are gathering signatures in a petition drive to force a grand jury to investigate whether Resident Bushista and another known felon, Donald "i'm not a duck" Rumsfeld, are promoting obscenity by lying their asses off about the Iraq war.

Edit: I kno know, I live in a land of fantasy, but hey, a boy's gotta dream.

4. Simple -
If your against sex toys and pornography, don't buy em.

If your against abortions don't get one.

If your against gay marriages, don't marry a gay.

Why must these people that are against these issues want me to me to think and believe like they do?

To some it is a rabbit and to other's it is a duck.

5. somehow all of their "free market" rhetoric
just dries up when it comes to the radicalized religious right and the craven corporate cronies.... chalk this up to the former who just don't want the market place to work...

7. The censors behind this movement
Have already got indictments against a Lion's Den outside Abieline, KS.

A grand jury was impaneled last fall after Citizens for Strengthening Community Virtues (CFSCV), supervised by the American Family Association (AFA), gathered enough voter signatures to force a summons.

As reported by AVN.com last month, upon receiving the complaint in November, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office spent $1,332.71 from the county’s diversion fund to purchase 36 items – including “artificial devices, vaginas, dildos” – from the store.

Each of the 29 counts alleges that from Oct. 28, 2003, and continuing to the present day, the store “knowingly, recklessly and unlawfully is engaged in promoting obscenity.…” The promotion of obscenity – which, under Kansas law includes the sale and promotion of adult novelties – is a Class A misdemeanor on the first offense according to Kansas Statutes, punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and/or up to one year in jail.

That means the 29 counts could translate into 29 years in jail and/or fines of up to $72,500 if the owners are convicted on all counts.

29 years in jail for selling a dildo. And I'm on the front lines of this war. Maybe after Ray the protester is done over in Kansas, he can camp on my roof. And I hope that if this starts happening in your neck of the woods, that my fellow DU'ers would at least write some LTTEs telling the prudes to back off.

8. This is a huge deal in Kansas
When I went back to be with my dad, I drove through I-70 from Denver to KC. There's a number of adult bookstores now taking up residence in the old Stucky's restaurants along the road - (ironic, no? Stucky's Sticky's ewww!). One is near Chapman where my aunt and uncle live, so they filled me in on it.

Anyway, the small town types are really upset about them and want them outlawed somehow.

10. Evidently they're getting PLENTY of business!
The one in Chapman - VERY small town - has been open for about 2 years now. Whatever are they buying in there?
