Formal State Dinner Canceled at APEC
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 10:18 a.m. ET

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- Hours after President Bush dove into a fracas to rescue his lead Secret Service agent from a confrontation with Chilean security officials, word surfaced of another security dispute. This time, an elaborate state dinner Sunday night was the casualty.

The dinner planned for Bush and 200 others by Chilean President Ricardo Lagos was reportedly scrapped after Chile was unwilling to accept security measures sought by the U.S. Secret Service, including a demand that all guests pass through metal detectors.

Leading Chilean newspaper El Mercurio reported that the disagreement led Bush and Lagos to instead hold a small ``social dinner'' with a handful of aides from each side.

when I heard about it, my first thought was that they were trying to separate the little chimps security from him for a reason. Perhaps so he could be arrested by the athorities?

10. This whole confrontation looks staged
If there was a real scuffle going on, do you think the other SS would let W get anywhere near it/ They should have tackled him to the floor if he tried to get in the way. There was no way to know what the scuffle was about and/or if there was a threat to the president.

The only reason that he would be allowed 'to break things up' while having it caught on film, is if Bush and his SS guys had planned to start the scuffle to begin with.

12. Exactly.
There is no way Bush is breaking up a fight between 2 presidential security guards. Those guys know how to fight, they ain't night watchmen.

Bush does however show a remarkable proclivity for falling off things.

15. "pleased at the macho image Saturday night's events "

Macho Bush!!!!! geech!! what next!!

.....Though clearly pleased at the macho image Saturday night's events painted of their boss, the White House kept its comments understated. ``The president is someone who tends to delegate, but every now and then he's a hands on kind of guy,'' Bush press secretary Scott McClellan said.

21. didn't know that. But reading the original topic I just remember
bits of JFK's head being shot off and I think if security isn't good enough, don't do it. I wonder if JFK had not been riding in a convertible, if he would still be alive TODAY. He would be around 90 I think.

the Shrub family; I put nothing past that entire bunch.

30. But the people coming to the dinner were like bush, leaders of their
nation. Would a president or wife of a president do such a thing to bush? Would they risk the total annihilation of their country?

I think bush didn't want to be on equal terms with these people, or be in an unstructured environment where he may hear the truth.

25. I think you're right about the little emperor being afraid...
In "Bush on the Couch", the author says anxiety and chaos rage in Bush's brain. There's an enduring FEAR of the "Law of Talion" catching up with him. He knows (at an unconscious level) that he is responsible for so much death and destruction.

31. Was there a film of the fracas where Macho Man bush* broke up the
fight? No one in the Chilean media was there? Was this a 'closed door' type of thing? And finally, was the whole thing started because of bush*s paranoia?

Do I believe it for a minute that bush* was the big hero? Hell no. I think this whole thing is hilarious. He wanted to make other heads of state or their security go through metal detectors? Geez, his dementia factor is heading for the stratosphere. Does he look more and more ridiculous by the day? Oh yeah. Can you imagine what kind of a joke he is to people in other governments? There's probably a whole bunch of bush* jokes going around in foreign countries that we'll never hear.
