SMALL TOWN VALUES: Rural Nevada key to Bush victory
Obviously the mainstream opinion rules here...the hell with the facts. The legend and myth of * are all that matters to people living in America's hinterland.

"Sparsely populated counties' conservatism mirrors national trend"

ALAMO -- President Bush never visited the Windmill Ridge cafe in this small Lincoln County town, but he didn't have to.

His message got through loud and clear.

"I voted for Bush strictly for morals," said cafe co-owner and cook Kim Turley, on a break after the lunch rush one day last week. "He's a family man, and he's a Christian. I think someone who has morals and family values is what the world needs."

3. I Still Don't Get It
finding Jesus just automatically washes away your past and present doings.

Bomb a few hundred thousand people, no problem because he believes in Jesus, insider trading - no problem, Jesus on and on.

The world outside the USA is appalled at this man of morals Mr. Turley, they don't want or need him.

4. A fundamental misunderstanding of small town and rural America
There are a LOT of rural white Americans who have it pretty good. Many people who live in big cities would rather live in the country, but they cannot get work there. Most of the white rural voters are there because they have land or have connections to make a good living. Many country people live better than most city people. Big yard and houses. New cars. The ones who can't fit into the small town network have to go to the big city to find work.

So, in large part, the rural voters vote for Bush to preserve the status quo, and because they associated the Dems with racial minorities, and these voters vote GOP because in their minds it gives them an enhanced social status to do so (see W.E.B. DuBois' "psychological wage" for more ont this).

Oh, on another note and did you see that GOP bozo on Tweety this morning? That rat bastid stole the vote! (Just tryin' to fit in....).

5. Good point.
I have relatives who are farmers and they are getting great tax breaks under Bush and don't have to lose money following new environmental laws. As rural Americans they definitely voted their interest.

7. Add this to the pile

Small town USA, I am a small town girl born and raised in a small farmer/rural town. They tend to be racist, white, no knowledge of the world around them, nice to their neighbors but cut off from what goes on around them in the rest of the world, the church is the center of their world, the church controls their rural population, church socials are the big events. They are to busy working to be concerned with political events beyond watching the news on your local station if you get one, most farmer types do not get cable, to expensive for them. So more then likely they will follow the church and there comes the moral values issue. It is all really sad because they are being doped into a quiet dictatorship. For these reasons I no longer live in a small town or rural area. I just can not deal with their small world ideals or their ideals of morals especially the racist part of it. They are extremely racist where I come from in Iowa, I just do not understand it.

9. The "key" to Bush's win was Election Fraud, NOT 'small town' values!
Any analysis of 'tainted' voting figures, or "carefully selected" voters who fit the "Mandate" profile are just that...no more.

Sure, we lost some rural votes (that's not new), and CERTAINLY NOT what 'appears' to have WON Bush the Election. (That of course was Diebold, vote fraud and voter suppression/intimmidation.)
QUIT blaming ourselves by analyzing their 'spin' about things THEY allege 'we did wrong,' or 'things we are not.' That's typical dysfunctional "toxic shame." I don't 'buy' any of it!:kick:

12. And I live in rural Nevada where most people make their living off of the
foreign mining corporations who are taking billions of dollars from public land in gold profits and hardly paying for the right to do so. The mining company execs helped spread rumors that Kerry was going to raise mining royalties on these companies and they told the employees they would all lose their jobs if that happened. No matter what Reid said, no one believed him that he would keep Kerry from doing that. And they all like their status quo, even though it is as temporary as the price of gold staying over $400. an ounce and the gold lasts in the ground....

23. Yup. Economic Feudalism is alive and well in "small town Amerika".
It's a form of mini-nationalism: immigrants (other than slave labor) are unwelcome. The "town fathers" form an Oligarchy, both social and economic, with an embedded mini-aristocracy and strict apportionment of fiefdoms.

24. "Values & Morals"= Code Speak for racism & ignorance

Ignorance as in IGNORING all but their own little corner of the world.
Racism as in watching the black comedians on TV is fine, but having black friends or in-laws...NO WAY IN HELL

The stinky little fact that politicians dance around is this:

De-segregation and civil rights happened in name only. The folks who are 50+ remember the "way it was", and they are perfectly happy to have it that way again.

Their kids have been exposed to other cultures through advertising, music and TV, and are NOT afraid of mingling..and THAT scares the BeJeebus out of their elders.. That's one reason why the Hellfire & Brimstone of the church is so important, and so is homeschooling.

Does ANYONE really think that Moms are that eager to spend 24/7 with adolescents and teens? Or that the kids get a balanced education by staying home? Or that they get a balanced social life by being home schooled?

It's about the fact that kids DATE and fall in love with other kids they hang out with at school and or church. Church is the desired location for social contact with these folks, so they can eliminate the school contacts by never letting them attend school with "undesireables"..

Of course college is another thing, so it's not surprising that more and more fundy colleges are springing up and state schools are being targeted by fundies.

He wanted to give me a couple of chickens...... Having a vacant 5 acres adjacent to my place, I have often worried @ the prospect of who might develop that land. This is pretty much redneck farmer territory & many of the surrounding folks are flag waving ASSHOLES.
The bottom line is: while my nieghbor get's little respect around here, I couldn't be happier with him. Shit, he's even a Marine (there are no 'ex-Marines') like me!

13. small town values
I grew up in a very small town in SE Texas. Pop, was roughly 1300..We had over a dozen churches, 1 stop light, k-12 all on one campus.. You know what there values where.. Beating people to death in the jail, beating their children, up until I was in the 4th grade, we still had a white homecoming queen, and a black homecoming queen. Was this in the 50's..No.. In the 60's NO.. The seperation for school was in the 70's.. The beatings in the 80's, late 80's.. The closer "larger" town to where I lived was Jasper.. And well, they like to drag people behind trucks there. My Mom works in a town named Vidor, people of color still refuse to live there because it's too dangerous.. My point in this rant is.. Small towns like Hemphill, Jasper ect. can keep their small town values.. I moved away 14 years ago and have been back to visit 3 times.. And nothing has changed!!!

That shit really took hold during the clinton years. Fucking NO ONE can define it, no one knows what it means, but goddam it all if these stagnant, white-washed douche bags drop it every chance they get.

To me, all it says is things need to go back to how they were before the 1900s. Women don't vote, blacks aren't free to roam the streets, and gays are kept OUT of the mainstream. There's too much difference in the world. And hey, if I beat my wife it's MY business because she's MY property.

21. I hate liberals
That's what it means. That's all it means. Liberals giving minorities more privileges than the white man. Liberals pussifying the male role. Liberals taking away guns. Liberals saving goofy owls and putting the white male out of work. Liberal homo lovers. Liberals who won't defend America because the UN says no. Liberals who give away my tax dollars to the welfare queens. Bla bla bla. Those are their "moral values", racism and bigotry.

20. I also grew up in a small town and my early view of religion was
it's a training ground for self deceit. People who were obviously un-Christian in almost every way could only see the un-Christian behavior in others and could not see their own. It is absolutely hopeless to attack their way of looking at life because anyone that sees it different moves away as soon as possible or just shuts up about it.

An example is the near Talaban life style combined with being willing to go to war to stop the Talaban from being that way. I like the quip "FOCUS ON YOUR OWN FAMILY".

get thousands of people to deck their cars out in anti-war, anti-Bush, pro-choice decor and caravan across the country driving through these small towns where Jesus is supposedly worshiped but war crimes are voted for. Hold demonstrations in main street U.S.A. It's time they realize they are not the heart of America, and they sure as hell aren't the only ones on the fucking planet.

Never, never should these actions be acceptable. Why is the democratic party not out screaming this at the top of their heads is beyond me. 31. "He's a family man, and he's a Christian." WTF???
"He's a family man, and he's a Christian. I think someone who has morals and family values is what the world needs."

:wtf:

Kerry is a "family man" and a "Christian". If that's the best reason they can come up with they clearly have no rational basis for choosing one candidate over the other.

OTOH, to these freaks, "family values", "morals", " and "Christian" are nothing but code words that mask their slavish, mindless fealty to whatever their hateful right-wing ministers spout in their ears every Sunday, most of which they don't understand, so the resort to these code words to summarize their willingness to be intellectual slaves.

The rest of the planet must look at America, see these bozos talking their simple-minded gibberish and wonder how any country so full of shit could ever become a military and economic super-power. They must perceive that this is the most corrupt country in history, one that rules by manipulating and deceiving the masses of dumbed-down bozos that populate most of the U.S.

I still don't think they're a majority, however, or even that significant a minority - they're just getting tons of undeserved attention in the right wing media since the election. The media wants the rest of the country to fall for the idea that this is the way Amerika thinks, to prepare us for all the right-wing fundie politicos' coming legislative and judicial crap.

This disgrace must be responded to, first they murder in our name, then they steal another election, what other shame must be put upon us before we react as the people in chile have, the drafting of our young people into this murders reign, his drive for fame at the cost of so many humans lives, we need to show the world that they are not alone in their hatard of this man, that there are many Americans ready and willing to take on this country and march on Washington, DC. We can not allow this actions to go on, we must fight back to get her back, American, we must organize and march thru out this country to our capitals of every state, we must march on Washington until they stop this war of evil. WE ARE THE EVIL AXIS, WE ARE THE ENEMY OF THE WORLD, WE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO MUST STOP THIS WAR, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME, NOT IN OUR NAME ........................................ IT MUST STOP !!!!

NO MORE MURDERS IN OUR NAME,
NO MORE BLOOD ON OUR HANDS,
NO MORE CHILDERN MURDERED,
NO MORE WOMEN MURDERED,
NO MORE BUSH CARTEL,
NO MORE LIVING IN SHAME,
NO MORE REFUSAL OF OUR CRIMES OF ACCEPTANCE,

If we do not reject Bush in a big reaction to this shameful adminstration then we become a part of the problem not the answer to it, the solution is ours to create, but me must make it soon.

I can not stand by while innocent lives are lost, it could be us instead, Bush does not care about lives, look at 9/11, look at how he responds to the murder he has orchestraed in war, no WMDs. He is a man without a soul, without a heart, we must show our heart or soul and take him out of office and march against him as only we can, we must be free of this shame. I can no longer look in the mirror each morning knowing that my country is the monster of the world, the bully down the street, we have no right to kill, we have no right to maime, yet we stand by without reaction while Chile took the right stand with a march against it's capital. They are MORE American then we are, they are MORE human then we are, they are MORE compassinate, how do we live with ourselves, how do we walk thru life knowing what we know, how do I face my children while other children die or are harmed, how do I do it, I have no answer for it but to act, to march, to cry not that these actions are not in my name, NOT IN MY NAME, NOT IN MY NAME, I can not live with it, can you ??????????????????????????
