SEATTLE -- A federal judge on Sunday denied the state Republican Party's bid to force King County to stop counting some ballots in the recount of the governor's race.

In a conference call with lawyers, U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman denied the GOP's request for a temporary restraining order barring the hand-counting of ballots machines reject because they can't be read electronically.
<snip>

"It was a good decision," state Democratic Party Chairman Paul Berendt said. "It's good for voters because it's consistent with the standard we would like to see - that every vote be counted."
<snip>

GOP Chairman Chris Vance downplayed the significance of Pechman's ruling, noting it dealt with only one aspect of the lawsuit. He noted that the judge said her decision was based on King County's assurance that all ballots in question are being kept separate from the others so they can be reviewed to see if any mistakes have been made.

1. count the vote
Since when did the notion of not counting votes permeate our election process? This BS started in 2000 when the Republicans sued to stop the vote count. It is the will of the people that must be ascertained. What a huge pile of crap.

Yes, it was set as precedent in Bush v. Gore 2000.

13. why is it
that the republicans always want to stop the counting of votes? They will fight tooth and nail to stop votes from being counted every time. If this isn't indicative of their guilt, I don't know what is.

The moral majority indeed!

2. Woohoo!
I live in King County, so I was particularlylivid that my vote might not be counted. This is good news. Funny how the Republicans are only taking issue in King County/Seattle-the most liberal county in the state!

3. What the banana republicans actually want
is that only votes for them are allowed to be counted. If there aren't enough, they will just make some up.

12. Let me guess -- the GOP'll say that Pechman's an "activist judge"
Or that she's a liberal, was nominated by a Democrat, doesn't like Republicans...

18. Count. every. vote. Period.
No exceptions. I'd take to the streets to make sure that even the most idiotic, dumbass received his/her right to vote and then have that vote counted and included in an official total.
