Lakeline Village to have recount on five-year levy; 10 percent of
provisional, absentee ballots rejected

(snip)

Clair also informed the four-member board that she will return a check
to Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and his counterpart
with the Libertarian Party, Michael Badnarik.

They sent money to Lake County to pay for an automatic recount of
presidential election ballots in the county.

Their $10 a precinct falls far short of the full cost, Clair said.
Additionally, the two third parties can't seek an automatic recount
until the state certifies the election.

She also said some prosecutors should challenge this because it could
be considered frivolous.

3. So is this going to be their strategy?
Is every damn county going to be obstructionist? Are they actually going to try to prosecute candidates who ask for what is due them under state law?

If they're having a recount anyway (on the five-year levy) how much extra can it cost to look at the presidential votes at the same time?

9. I think they have told us the truth: votes are frivolous and without
meaning.

at least, in THEIR world view. Wouldn't it be better if citizens gave up the silly notion they actually have a say in their dictat...er...democracy?

8. Read this section
"Everyone is to be commended. Ten percent rejected on the provisional ballots is awesome," Lake County Republican Party Chairman Dale Fellows said.

"It's very satisfying," Lake County Democratic Party Chairman Thomas A. Tagliamonte said. "We had to spend some extra money, and it seemed to pay off."

SNIP

Of the 16,323 absentee ballots cast countywide, 297, or 2 percent, were rejected.

Of the 2,014 provisional ballots counted Friday, 201, or 10 percent, were rejected.

------------

EVERY Elections Office should be required to give such data on their absentee and provisional ballots.

Talking about " frivolous". The republican party is bragging about the provisional ballots. 90% of those foced to vote by provisional ballots should have voted the regular way. That's 1,813 votes that had to be researched before being counted. And the local republican party is bragging that it "paid off." LOL! Spent lots of money to throw away 201 votes.

In some areas of the country the provisionals are not being counted at all unless it's a close race.

ON a side note. Notice that this eleciton office has another election on Dec 14. I'm sure they are panicing trying to finish up this one so they can get ready for the next one. OUCH! It may have alot to do with why they really don't want to count those ballots again at that office.

12. Here's the reply to my e-mail to Lake Cnty - Dir Jan Clair
I'm sure she wrote this just for me probably didn't reply to anyone else. ;-)

"Please be advised that we will conduct a recount, at the appropriate time. The law provides a mechanism for the recount and certainly, that request will be honored.

My comments spoke to a procedural question. We have received a request for a recount prior to the election being certified by the Secretary of State. I am meeting with our Prosecutor to determine if I can hold on to the check or need to return the check until the appropriate time it may be requested.

Please understand that a recount is a reaffirmation of what we do in conducting the official count. I have no problem whatsoever in doing whatever is requested and will do whatever is requested by law. And, I have never felt that any part of our election process is frivolous....

Respectfully,

Jan Clair, Director"

13. Ten percent not counted...
and they are happy about this.

$10/precinct is too little to conduct the recount....yet the objections were raised according to the law?

There is no justice.
